Malvern International reshapes its ELT division to focus on groups, junior programmes and teacher training

Malvern International PLC today announced a strategic reshaping of its English Language Teaching (ELT) division, as it moves away from individual adult English language programmes and strengthens its focus on group provision, junior programmes, teacher training, and university pathways.

As part of this transition, Malvern has reached a deal with EC English, a leading global provider of English language education, to ensure continuity of learning for current adult students. All affected students will be transferred to EC English centres in London or Manchester, with the transition taking place during February and March.

This move follows a detailed strategic review of Malvern’s ELT operations, assessing market demand, operating models and long-term sustainability. The review concluded that future growth opportunities in English language education lie increasingly in group-based learning, junior programmes, and professional development for teachers, rather than in stand-alone adult individual enrolments.

This shift of focus comes as Malvern continues to scale its University Pathways division through Malvern HE Partnerships, which has signed four new university partners in the past 12 months, including London Metropolitan University last month. The division is designed to deliver sustainable, high-margin growth while creating clear, high-quality routes into UK higher education for international students.

In addition, Malvern’s Juniors division – delivered via Language in Action and Innovate Summer Academy – has grown significantly in 2025 and continues to expand with 2 new centres outside of London, diversifying our provision to Liverpool and Canterbury.

Malvern House London will continue to operate as a centre of excellence for group programmes, teacher training and higher education pathways, through Malvern’s NCUK International Study Centre. This allows the school to remain an important part of Malvern’s London academic footprint while aligning with the company’s future-focused portfolio.

Richard Mace, CEO of Malvern International, said:

‘This is a strategic realignment that allows us to focus our ELT resources on the areas where we see the strongest long-term demand and the greatest educational impact. Our junior programmes continue to grow, with new centres opening this year beyond London, while Malvern HE Partnerships is going from strength to strength through new university collaborations that provide students with high-quality, supportive study experiences and progression into a diverse range of university programmes.’
