UoC International College Launch Event.

University of Cumbria International College Official Opening at Lancaster Campus

The University of Cumbria International College officially opened its doors to students in September, with a celebratory launch event held today at the Lancaster Campus — marking a major milestone in the University’s commitment to international education.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Lancaster, Margaret Pattison; representatives from Malvern HE Partnerships (part of Malvern International); University of Cumbria Pro Vice-Chancellors Claire Aindow and Dr Jonathan Eaton; staff from the University and the International College; and, most importantly, the international students who have chosen to study abroad at the University of Cumbria.

The launch began with a warm welcome from the Centre Director, who highlighted the strong partnership between Malvern International and the University of Cumbria that made the College possible.

Dr Nima Nazari, Centre Director for the University of Cumbria International College, said:

This launch represents months of hard work, collaboration and a shared belief in the power of education to transcend borders. Through this College, we are not only creating pathways into academic study — we are building bridges between cultures, communities and futures.

To our students, I want to say this: you are pioneers. You are the first to walk this path at our International College, and you carry with you the hopes of your families, your communities, and your own bright futures. We are honoured that you have chosen to trust us with your education. This campus, this city, and this community are now your home too.

Claire Aindow, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Growth and Development) at the University of Cumbria, spoke about the College’s strategic role in expanding the University’s global reach and supporting its mission to provide high-quality education for international students.

Margaret Pattison, the Mayor of Lancaster, welcomed the International College’s positive contribution to the local community and its alignment with the city’s longstanding tradition of education and inclusion.

The launch event concluded with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a reception with lunch and networking, giving guests the opportunity to connect and celebrate this exciting new chapter.
